Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A kit fee covers wear and tear on our gear. Batteries, SD cards, camera shutters, and more wear over time when being used. Just like tires on a car, you'll need to replace them eventually.

It's hard to say what most people need as projects and environments widely vary. If you are truly not sure, please do not hesitate to contact and ask. We're more than happy to figure out what you need without upselling what you don't. If you have some what of an idea, here's a simple breakdown of what Samuel recommends from the main camera options:

"Video Kit 1 & Photo kit 2 includes the Sony A7S III (same camera sensor as the FX3), the highly remarked Sony lowlight connoisseur. For fast action like sports, you get great frame rate options for slow motion video with clean high dynamic range images, even in lower light situations. The video capabilities pretty much let me jump into just about any environment and not have to worry about the image consistency. Absolutely great for run and gun filming as you can be locked in on what you need to capture rather than worry about the image quality taking a hit. While it doesn't have a high megapixel sensor for photos, the images it produces are clean and more than plenty for small prints, online, and social media. For heavy color work / effects in post, or high speed object filming without distortion (rolling shutter), this is what you need.

Video Kit 2 and Photo kit 1 includes the Sony A7 III, a slightly older camera body, but is fantastic in the photo department at 24 megapixels, and a decent performer on the video side. The photo resolution is plenty for large prints and some cropping when needed. I love the level of detail of you are able to see when zooming in to the photos shot on this camera, however when compared to the 12 megapixel A7S III in low light shots, it does fall a bit short. As for video, it produces a nice sharp image, but falls short when it comes to color work in post due to the 8 bit of color depth. The video kit does include the Atomos Ninja V, which lets you record the best possible image from the A7 III over HDMI into ProRes, and undoubtedly makes a difference, but you need to be experienced to pull the best from it. Having said that, I am very comfortable with using it as a B-camera when lighting is decent. Overall, it's a cheaper kit option meant for clients that don't need much post color work, or very intensive video needs.

As for everything else, I'm happy to chat with the client to figure out their needs, and present them with the best option available from our resources."

Travel costs remain separate as that is something that is discussed with the client for their specific needs. Contact us with questions to learn more.

As mentioned under rigging, you need to contact us to learn more. Every clients needs are different. For example, let's say you need us on set for video behind the camera, but you need a gimbal and drone kit as you already have a camera picked out, but need stabilization along with any applicable drone work for your project. Ultimately for that case, a camera kit doesn't need to be provided, but stabilization setup/maintenance along with drone work are necessary.
